Somerville Elementary welcomes Ruby Bridges for a virtual author visit presentation for grades 2-5. Ruby Bridges, at only 6 years old in 1960, was one of the first black children to be integrated into the all white public school system in New Orleans. With this history, Ms. Bridges has been a lifelong activist for racial equality including establishing The Ruby Bridges Foundation in 1999 to promote tolerance and create change through education.
